This latch suffers many times from bad chrome, for the price we sell the new one, You never can re-chrome your old one. Door buffers or centerwedges (the choice to name it is yours)are needed on VW Beetles build before August 1 1955 and VW buses because of the door lock was not that sophisticated enough to keep the door in position while driving. These wedges really “center” your door in the right position to hold it there during the drive. BBT developed one type of wedge that will fit all models that ever used stock early style wedges. These buffers or wedges need to be replaced at EVERY restoration as they always are became too small for being “compressed” in the little notch in the door jam….Sold per pair. This will not fit 1955 and later convertibles and Ghias, they use the BBT ref 7044 wedge
