Last friday I was invited to Ile de Reunion, a magical tropical island from France. Our distributor for Reunion, Coleur Chrome from Mickael and his team prepared a small road trip and was brave enough to give me a Vw to participate!
Bugs, sun and ocean, what do we need more????
Inside the shop there was lots of other goodies … Mickael is hardcore!!!
Nice cool shop and nice area, some guys have all the luck….:)
So cool, thanks so much Mickael, you’re a real king of cool… and yes you do look so good with two Belgian beers in front of you! thanks also to your mom, your girlfriend Bambou, all your team, family and friends for this unforgettable experience!
We will for sure!
The committee of Yogya VW festival took us on a tour after the festival, amazing!
We started at BBT customer and friend of the Houze Smart Volks from our friend Roshid
They make all kind of metal parts, all by hand…
Top metal labor, You wouldn’t tell, but these guys knows exactly what they’re doing!
Our group of visitors with Mr Roshid, his wife and there one year old baby..
Next stop… the shop from Lulut…
Serious work here… all made in-house…
souvenirs and awards all over the place…
top-secret beetle transmission…
Next stop, the Ghia manufacturer place…
very wild customs been made here too!
again, state of the art metal work!
and more projects are awaiting finishing…
a tool box from one of the metalworkers…
also here heavy metal resurrections of Volkswagens..
doglegs been made “in-house” too….
unbelievable to see what these people can make with hardly any tools, in this last garage they had a workforce of over 150 workers… impossible in Belgium with our stupid labor cost…:(
tomorrow more updates about Indonesia, stay tuned!
Flat 4 in Tokyo is always a good place to visit….. Major BBT partner for BBT in Japan!
2 Hebmullers on the second floor! This is what they call a SHOW room in Japan!!
Walls and cabinets, full of EMPI parts, real EMPI parts, from a real rich period in VW aftermarket business…
Nao, general manager of Flat 4 himself, helps out yours truly at the counter…:)
Well known dragster on display….
This is the Flat 4 main office, or shall we call it “the bridge” like from an ocean liner??? This is the Flat4 nerve center for sure…
Nice display of cars… and look close….;
2 cars from Belgium arrived on time… after Bad Camberg, Chimay and Spa, we shipped the Terror Garage Hebmuller and the BBT chocolate brown split window to Tokyo for a the 4th International Vintage Treffen in Japan! This is Guest parking only!!! Thank You Mr. Nao, Thank You Mr.Komori for helping us!
Terror Garage made very very cool stickers…
Yanto and Michaël of Terrror Garage fame just arrived on time too…. and mounted the Kamei Airdam on their Hebmuller…
All together where the happy 4… Nao-san thanks again for all help receiving and storing our cars! Without your help it would not have been possible!
Everything is ready for the drive tomorrow…. Tomorrow… we will drive our cars trough Tokyo!!! Stay tuned…. we’re so excited…. you too?
Having to check out a car in person is always fun to do, and being me, I took advantage for two deliveries same time…
Freeway was calling…. last friday morning 5.00am….
Woeps, Burgundy is a very agricultural area… weird stuff on the roads…
and plenty of vineyards off course!
First delivery a 1979 single cab to big friend of Da (BBT) Houze Eric…. and yes Eric was very happy, again!
Roads getting smaller driving deeper into Burgundy, believe me or not this is the town of Givry, one of my favourite pinot noir wines of all times!
Maybe there’s still an old Renault or 2Cv hidden in this long time out of service garage? I didn’t check it out but pondering about maybe I should have.. I liked the patina a lot!
I crossed a lot of “sleeping” towns, like I was a 100 years back in time…
Lunchtime! A small impromptu picnic…. In France You buy a bread and a piece of cheese and You just stop on the side of the road…. you enjoy simple food like no money can buy… nothing to compare with Mac Do or other stupid fast food…
Really sad I can’t drink and drive as the bottle of wine was laughing to me….:(
I stopped a couple of towns later and had a drink on a terras, dark clouds came, so I had to hurry to take this picture…. sleepy towns….
The roads became smaller! Smaller like this don’t exist I suppose…:)
Second delivery, the orange 1973 Westfalia to Alain… two weeks ago on our Blog, today with its new owner in France… BBT service!
Alain and friends took an immediate close inspection… Alain’s first VW, another very happy customer…
The workshop belongs to Michel, a real old school mechanic, Yes, I do love these kind a workshops, mainly these old school guys can fix You everything…. and Michel is absolutely no exception!
Now, how beautiful is this? Welcome to Burgundy, one of my favourite area’s in France….
A real mandatory visit to one of our prime French distributors, and personal friend, Pascal, of Serial Kombi fame… Pascal moved over to this area a couple of years ago.
Some Belgian beer (from Averbode) will always do, even in Burgundy! Hey Ben, Kim, Jimmy and all from The Bug A Roo gang, thanks again for that beer, it was awesome and Pascal and his wife liked it a lot too!
Pascal lives on a 19th century farm, completely renovated, “his style”… so nice, cool and period, almost like paradise, it seems Adam and Eve only moved out of here only yesterday!
Pascal was so kind to offer me bed for the night. Mandatory after that rocket fuel monk beer and the crazy big Charolais steak for dinner with the necassary bottles of wine, your in France now, remember? This is Charolais area, probably one of the best meats money can buy… I’m a real witness now!
This was the view from my window in the morning, the funky beer feeling was gone, but the paradise illusion stayed!
Pascal, thanks for everything my friend, You’re a perfect host, I had the time of my life! Filled with cool memories on the road again…
The morning drive was beautiful!
Is this real? I almost thought that crazy monk beer effect came back! Now how beautiful is this? Saturday morning 7.30am….
Saturday morning 8.00am, close to Macon, (between Dijon and Lyon) I meet Miguel, and after a close inspection his Ghia was loaded on the BBT trailer… and became “mine”….. time for a cool “selfie” picture…. Miguel and his wife and yours truly, and the newly acquired Type 34 Ghia… April1963…!
All strapped down, ready to hit the road for the trip back home…
After 400 and something kilometers I reached the Belgian border near Luxemburg, another 300km cross country and I’m home…. another beautiful trip, another beautiful adventure, another tons of extreme cool memories…
Vw’s do connect people, the thing I do love absolutely the most about my job….
