Snel nadat we in het najaar 2015 onze T2b VW camper/van Champagne edition (bij BBT) kochten beslisten we dat deelname aan het twee-jaarlijkse Bulli Treffen in Kals am Grossglockner op de 2-do lijst stond.
Streefdatum….. juli 2016.
Soon after our purchase (at BBT) of our T2b Camper/Van “Champagne edition 1978” in Autumn 2015 we decided participation in the 2 years event “Bullitreffen Kals am Grossklockner”(Austria) in 2016
Maar zoals dat gaat bij projecten, loop het uit op een totale , van nagel tot nagel, restauratie. En wordt de tijd die hierin gestoken wordt gruwelijk onderschat.
But as is usual, those project results in a complete renovation. And mostly the time to do this is horribly underestimated. Thanks to advices and help of my VW friend, and thanks to the VW parts supplier (BBT) all came to satisfy our dream car
Na 20 maanden was het zover dat er naar de technische keuring kon gereden worden, waar er een “groene” kaart zonder bemerkingen uitgereikt werd.
After 20 months of hard labor the moment was there to present our complete overhaul to the regular technical inspection. After the inspection we became a clean certificate and license
Het werd uitkijken naar de grote uitdaging. Na een 2.000 km proefritten, en het oplossen van technische “probleempjes” kwam juli 2018 in zicht.

Voor ons was het Bullitreffen in Kals am Grossglocker een bijeenkomst van luchtgekoelde T’s die je als bezitter van een T minsten één maal in je leven moet “gereden” hebben.
For us the participation in “Europa’s Biggest Bus/Van Aircoled VW Meeting” ,was the event that a T-owner had to participate at least one’s in his lifetime.
Voorwaarde evenwel dat je troetel volledig technisch in orde is, en dat de bemanning er op voorbereid is.
Provided that your “ped” is in fulLy technically condition, and that the crew is prepared for it.
Via de voortreffelijke A-wegen (wat een luxe in plaats van dat geklungel met E-wegen)
Via in excellent condition and named German A-Highways (what a luxury instead with ever changing numbers of E-Highways numbers in Be and NL)
Eerste stop/tanking in het andere VW walhala Bad-Kamberg. Wat wel een tegenvaller was, de prijs van de benzine 98, die amper nog te krijgen is, en in Duitsland al EUR 100 genoemd wordt. In Oosternrijk reeds EUR110. Voordeel, in Duitsland is men nog vrij van MAUT.
First stop at another VW-Oldtimer Walhala “ Bad Camberg”. What a disappointment after this first refueling. The price of one liter fuel 98…. 1.80 EUR/Liter… OK, there is No MAUT(highway taxes) in Germany and they serve Fuel 100.. Later on in Austria price was more as 0,20 EUR less (but you have to pay MAUT) and they serve Fuel 110..
Na een probleemloze rit van 990 km
After a smooth ride of 990 km, and 17 hours later, we arrived at destination ( Alt.1370 meters above sea level)
Waar we nog niet veel volk tegenkwamen, dat zou de volgende dagen wel veranderen.
Where we did not meet many people yet, that would change in the next few days
De zon was wel aangekomen, en die zou gans het Treffen ons gunstig gezind blijven.
The sun was present, and she would remain favorable to us during the complete meeting.
Gezien we een dag voor het Bullitreffen aankwamen hadden we de tijd om zelf al eens op verkenning te trekken, en ineens naar de Grossglockner himself.
As we arrived 36 hours before the start of the meeting, we had time enough to explore the Tirol Alps, including the High Alp route to and the Grossglockner himself (Alt. 3.798 ASL)
Geen enkele luchtgekoelde 4 wieler tegengekomen, of toch wel, en dan nog wel een heel moedige
We met not one air cooled 4-wheeler, or yes, this particular brave.

Een vast onderdeel van het Bullitreffen in Kals am Grossglockner is de eerste namiddag in konvooi naar Lucknerhaus. Gezien het groot aantal deelnemers (305 geregistreerde deelnemers en een 100 tal black-riders) werden er 3 konvooien samengesteld.
Every Bullitreffen at Kals am Grossglockner start on Friday afternoon with the ride in convoy to the higher located “photo shoot “location at Lucknerhaus (ALT. 1.925 meters), with perfect view on mount Grossglockner (ALT. 3.798 Meter). Due to the large number of participants (305 registered Bullis, and about 100 black-riders) over 400 in total the organizers decided to split this event in 3 separate groups.
