Saturday night after a healthy filled day of VW activities (see Blog posts from last week and yesterday) we’ve been invited by the vice president of the WOB Käferclub. Driving over through Wolfsburg area we came across this building….
Our general WOB host Bjorn and Pascal clearly had a great time!

The day after (last Sunday) it was time for Automeile… Bjorn arranged a small ad in the local newspaper….
It was unbelievable how many people came by that still knew the bus, used to drive along in the glider club, even had old pictures from it etc etc…
Automeile is a general car event, the Beetle club Wolfsburg was strongly present and had the team “wedding”!
or the garage find Scirocco 1… also from one of the club members…
and a “raised from the body” Brasilia, a lot of people tried to figure out what this was all about…:)
A small tour in the area led us to the “Porsche hutte”, this house was from Dr F Porsche when he lived in Wolfsburg to oversee the construction of the factory!
from the garden man had unbelievable beautiful views from the factory!
BBT does recommend Castrol too, ask for BBT’s Castrol Classic at your parts shop!
We also drove by the VW bad, the swimming pool granted by Volkswagen to the city of Wolfsburg in 1951!

Herr Rolf Riesen, brought a bunch of pictures to my Samba from my Samba, as he saw my ad in the Newspaper, he made dia’s back then so we get all pictures in color too! Thank You so much Herr Riesen!

Sandkamp gate of the factory, this used to be the main entrance of the factory… all workers of the plant came through this gate to produce your car back in the day, now its only the entrée for research dept (FE)
with Mike’s 60 ragtop we’re almost back in the sixties….:)
Time to hit the road back home… what a weekend… and to finnish with one of most beautiful sunsets I ever experienced…

What a trip, what a trip, can’t thank all members of the Käferclub Wolfsburg enough for what they did for us, for the dinner saturday night (man that was good food!) for the drive around in the 60 rag, for the “kaffee und kuchen” on Sunday, for all the help with translating and talking to people, etc etc.
But a very very special Thank You for my friend Bjorn Schewe, who really did crazy things to make sure we had the time of lives, well Bjorn you’re succeeded big time… we will never ever forget your hospitality anymore…. and the experience of this awesome “Wolfsburger wochenende”…

Leave a CommentHallo Bob. Du hast mir mit diesen Fotos ein Teil meiner Kindheit zurück gegeben. Die Porschehütte, Haben wir des öffteren besucht als 8-10 Jähriger Junge. und wenn Onkel Ferdinad Porsche auf besuch kam. , Er kam immer mit dem Fieseler Storch ein Leichtflugzeug! wenn der Gegenwind sehr stark war, stand er still in der Luft und es war schwer zu landen. Wir Jungens haben , wenn er dann Unten war, das Flugzeug festgehalten 20 Meter hinter der Hütte. Da gab es Anker zum fest machen. Ferdinang Porsche hatte immer Süßsigkeiten dabei für uns.
! Fehler noch, der Eingang zum Werk in dem Dorf Sandkamp. war für Zulieferer, nicht für Personal. Die kamen am Bahnhof von KDF Stadt wo es eine Brücke gab in das Werk. die Brücke ging über die die Eisenbahn Geleise und über den Mittellandkanal. Dann habt ihr noch etwas vergessen zu sehen, hinter der Prüfsträcke Nähe Warmenau, gibt es einen Teich, dort wurden die Schwimmwagen getestet immer an einem Seil hängend falls sie abgesoffen sind, wurden sie dann mit einer Winde zurück an Land geholt.
Wir Kinder durften dort im Wasser baden wenn es keine autos gab.
Hallo Bob. U hebt het teruggeven van een deel van mijn jeugd met deze foto’s. De Porsche hut, hebben we bezocht als een 8-10 jaar oude jongen. en toen oom Ferdinad Porsche te bezoeken. Dat hij was altijd met de Fieseler Storch een lichte vliegtuig! Als de tegenwind erg sterk was, hij stond still in de lucht en het was moeilijk te landen. Wij jongens, opgenomen toen hij naar beneden, het vliegtuig 20 meter achter de hut. Er waren ankers om het vliegtuig vast te zetten. . Ferdinang Porsche had altijd snoepgoed voor ons.
! Fout nog, de ingang van de fabriek in het dorp van Sandkamp. was voor leveranciers, niet voor het personeel. Ze moeten op het Trainstation van KDF stad, waar er een brug naar de plant. de brug overgestoken de spoorwegen en de Mittellandkanal. Dan heb je nog iets vergeten te zien achter de dorpje Warmenau was een Proefvijver van zo 500×500 Meters,, in deze vijver, zijn de zwemwagen getest op een touw hangend rijdend in het water, als ze niet dicht waren en onder gangen, zijn ze terug gehald met winched aan de wal.
We kinderen waren er zwemmen in dit water toen er geen auto’s anwezig waren. sorry voor deze vertaaling! daag Boob ergens heb ik er Fotos van deze Aktis met de zwemwagens maar op moment zijn ze niet te vinden.
